Squishy Circuits: Learning Electronics Through Play Dough

I recently had the opportunity to chat with AnnMarie Thomas who is a professor of engineering at St. Thomas University in Minneapolis.

One of her most popular lessons has been delivered in a 4-minute TED Talk, where she shares the joy of teaching basic circuitry and electronics to children through the use of homemade play dough.

She’s coined this “Squishy Circuits” and you can view the video below.

AnnMarie also has a website that explains her methods as well as provides recipes for making conductive and insulated play dough as well as how to build circuits using play dough.

We plan on running our own experiments soon but in the meantime we highly suggest watching AnnMarie’s TED Talk and consider teaching your kids some basic elements of electricity.
