These days it seems that there are more and more reasons why kids stay inside. Television, DVDs, video games, the internet. Well we wanted to share some great reasons to get OUTSIDE and play these fun games that seem to have been forgotten.
Hopscotch
There was a time when any blank sidewalk space was covered in chalk and you’d see kids waiting their turn to play. There’s no better time than now to start playing hopscotch again. You just need a couple willing players, a blank cement slab and some colored chalk.
Hoop Rolling
This game is played around the world and has been for years. You just need a round object like a hula hoop or old bike rim and a stick to keep it rolling. Whoever drops their hoop first loses.
Jump Rope
Not only is jumping rope fun but it’s a great way to get in shape. You can involve your friends as well so don’t think this is just a solitary game.
Horseshoes
You need a bit more space to do this but if you’ve got an open field this is a simple game to setup. Make sure your stakes are placed in the ground solidly and you have a backstop setup. This game can be played with by kids and adults together.
These are just a few fun outdoor games that anyone can play. What’s your favorite outdoor game? Let us know in the comments.

24 Feb ’12 at 11:03 amThanks for the great list! Our family fave is definitely Hide and Go Seek. My kids also love mini obstacle courses. I tell them the route and they go for it!
